June, Amsterdam 2011 – This month marks the opening of a solo exhibition at Unruly Gallery with new paintings by Lin Felton, also known as QUIK. From the subways of New York to the walls of renowned museums and galleries worldwide his iconic style has been fresh and unruly for over twenty-five years. Time for an overview on Amsterdam soil.
Lin ‘QUIK’ Felton (1958) started tagging the walls in his neighborhood in Queens, New York in the seventies. From pioneer, famously portrayed in the graffiti bible ‘Subway Art’, to sought-after artist with countless exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the world, he is one of the founding graffiti artists who has consistently honed his skills and who remains a very prolific artist. Notable features of QUIK’s paintings are his original characters, his fresh color palette and the many references to both high and low culture. The depicted characters embody the inner turmoil of the artist, his relation to society and the people who surround him, very often women.
Unruly Gallery is a new gallery and web shop, founded by Niels Shoe Meulman, founder of Calligraffiti, a blend of graffiti and calligraphy. Unruly Gallery does not want to categorize or label but prefers to focus on the individual artists and to let the displayed work speak for itself.
The opening on June 24th is by invitation only; Saturday June 25th and Sunday June 26th Unruly Gallery will be open to the public from 11:00 to 19:00. After these dates by appointment only for interested buyers.
The paintings by Lin ‘QUIK’ Felton can be viewed and purchased online from June 24th onwards via unrulygallery.com.
